Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting May 16.20)3 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida
attractive to all the Commissioners.and the application as to where we can always determine
based on future studies. We are a community with a lot of tourism in it, and we have the
opportunity to showcase the City with a brighter light.
Commissioner Levin said when you come across the Julia Tuttle Causeway into Miami
Beach they have the palm trees with just the little wings around them, it is very simple but
she loves that. Maybe we can do something like that at the north end. Jerry Kaufman said
yes, there are so many applications out there and sometimes less is more, for the bridge you
could accomplish that. He noted the canopy that we saw. the arch, if you took the walkways
and just did that alone with simple wire. The LED wiring system is extremely light, has
resistance to heavy wind and would meet whatever Code is necessary. You could introduce
solar power and solar cells to light the entire system and it is currently being used that way
now. Other than the installation cost there could be tremendous benefits.
12B. Mayor Edelcup reminded everyone of the Special Election scheduled on Tuesday,June 4,
2013. Everyone needs to get out and vote on the six Charter Amendments. He noted on
Amendment 5, there is a robocall going around from the Fire Department telling the people
to vote against that particular amendment. We need to reassure the public that voting yes to
that amendment does not necessarily mean that we have any intention of changing the Fire
Department from the Miami-Dade Fire Department which today is doing a superb job,but it
gives the City the right to its own destiny and not to be hamstrung so that in the future if
change were to be required it would already be in place. He reminded everyone again to get
out and vote on June 4, 2013. and if you have an absentee ballot to fill it out and send it back
to the Elections Department.
13.
