Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting May 16.2013 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida <br /> 5. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS <br /> 5A. City Commission Employee Recognition Program: Certificates of Appreciation to be <br /> Presented to the Following City Employees: lima Kartunova. Yelena Vinokur; and K-9 <br /> Officer "Diesel" and his partner Police Corporal Rob Ostrov. <br /> Action: Mayor Edelcup reported that Inna Kartunova, Community Center Coordinator, <br /> Yelena Vinokur. Permit and Licensing Clerk,and K-9 Police Officer"Diesel"and his partner <br /> Police Corporal Rob Ostrov, went above and beyond the call of duty in the performance of <br /> their duties. Mayor Edelcup and the City Commission presented them each with a Certificate <br /> of Appreciation and noted that each recipient will receive a $100 check, with the exception <br /> of K-9 Officer"Diesel" who was awarded a container of Doggie Treats. <br /> 5B. A Proclamation to be Presented to Sally J. Alayon. the Founding Principal of the Alonzo <br /> and Tracy Mourning Senior High Biscayne Bay Campus. <br /> Action: Mayor Edelcup reported noting that this is with mixed emotions because we are <br /> gaining and losing Sally Alayon as she has now been promoted to Administrative Director of <br /> the North Region Office of the Public School System. Mayor Edelcup and the Commission <br /> presented her with a Proclamation and the Key to the City. Ms. Alayon thanked the Mayor <br /> and Commission for the great support of the City, and noted that the new Principal. Lisa <br /> Garcia, has already started. <br /> 5C. Proclamation/Presentation by "Relay for Life" Event Chairperson Gale Tucker and the <br /> American Cancer Society. <br /> Action: Mayor Edelcup reported noting that this year's event was unfortunately canceled <br /> due to the weather however it was a wonderful success with increased participation. Several <br /> teams showed up and decorated tents, raised money in advance, and many events were <br /> hosted by our local hotel community to build awareness even before the event. The only <br /> thing missing was the overnight walk but it was a terrific success. Mayor Edelcup and the <br /> Commission presented a Proclamation to Chairperson Gale Tucker via Dr. Linda Kaplan of <br /> the American Cancer Society as Ms. Tucker is out ill. Dr. Kaplan thanked the Mayor and <br /> Commission for sponsoring this event as well as in-kind services. Dr. Kaplan and Tracy <br /> Paige, on behalf of Ms. Tucker,presented an award to Commissioner Levin, Police Captain <br /> Michael Grandinetti.and Cultural and Community Affairs Director Susan Simpson for their <br /> tireless efforts for this annual event. <br /> 5D. A Proclamation to be Presented to Cultural and Community Services Department for <br /> "National Kids to Parks Day" on Saturday, May 18, 2013. <br /> Action: Mayor Edelcup reported. Mayor Edelcup and the Commission presented a <br /> Proclamation to Cultural and Community Services Director Susan Simpson and her Staff, <br /> Lester Alexander, Sylvia Flores,Darrin Graumann, Inna Kartunova,and Roy Ortiz. He also <br /> thanked Public Works Employees Joel Grunzweig and Cesar Moreno and their crews for an <br /> excellent job of maintaining our parks. <br />
