Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting May 16.2013 City of Sunny Isles Beach.Florida <br /> 7C. An Ordinance of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, Amending <br /> Chapter 265 "Zoning" Section 265-36 of the City Code to Include Development <br /> Standards for Hotels Within the Neighborhood Business (B-1) <br /> District; Providing for Severability; Providing for Repeal of Conflicting Provisions; <br /> Providing for Inclusion in the Code; and Providing for an Effective Date. <br /> Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and City Attorney Ottinot reported noting that this <br /> applies to hotel uses only in the B-1 District which is primarily the west side of Collins <br /> Avenue from 172"d to 18th Street. Also, in Town Center, Apartment Hotel is prohibited, <br /> and so this Ordinance only creates standards for hotels. <br /> Public Speakers: None <br /> Mayor Edelcup asked whether these standards will be the same as what is on the ocean-side, <br /> and City Attorney Ottinot said yes. <br /> Vice Mayor Aelion moved and Commissioner Gatto seconded a motion to approve the <br /> proposed Ordinance on first reading,as amended. The motion was approved by a roll <br /> call vote of -0 in favor. Second reading, public hearing will be held on Thursday,June <br /> 20, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. <br /> Vote: Commissioner Gatto yes <br /> Commissioner Levin yes <br /> Commissioner Scholl yes <br /> Vice Mayor Aelion yes <br /> Mayor Edelcup yes <br /> 7D. Add-On: <br /> An Ordinance of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida. Amending <br /> Ordinance No. 2012-391; Amending the City's Budget for the 2012-2013 Fiscal Year - <br /> Building Fund for Additional Staff in the Building Department; Authorizing the City <br /> Manager to Do All Things Necessary to Implement the Terms and Conditions of this <br /> Ordinance; and Providing for an Effective Date. <br /> Action: [City Clerk's Note: The documents were distributed prior to the meeting.] City <br /> Clerk Hines read the title. and City Manager Russo and Finance Director Mina! Shah <br /> reported noting that the additional staffing is equivalent to 5.25 full time staff. City Manager <br /> Russo noted that this was discussed at the Workshop held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. He <br /> said they had showed a timeline, the history of the staffing of the Building Department <br /> inclusive of both total numbers of inspections from year to year; the total number of new <br /> high-rise condominiums and other construction projects that went up over those years, and <br /> the level of staffing in the Department. We also included an exit strategy in terms of when <br /> the build-out is concluded, and our downsizing once again at that point. That program will <br /> expand if more development comes on. Vice Mayor Aelion complimented the City Manager <br /> and his staff as the presentation that was given at the Workshop was very detailed, and the <br /> outcome was that the City Manager was very conservative on the gradual increase of staff. <br /> Public Speakers: None <br /> .
