City of Sunny Isles Beach
• 18070 Collins Avenue
I • • Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160
-S'=A9)'jf (305)947-0606 City Hall
'Tr oa'suN'" (305)949-3113 Fax
MEMORANDUM
TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Commission
VIA: Christopher J. Russo, City Manager
FROM: Minal Shah, Finance Director
DATE: 6/20/2013
RE: A Budget Amendment to Fund for Additional Staffing Needs
for the Building Department through the End of the Fiscal
Year 2012/2013.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the Commission approve the attached Ordinance for second
reading approving funding to increase staffing in the Building Department.
REASONS:
The City is experiencing high volume of new construction of high-rise buildings.
As of April 2013, five (5) high-rise projects have obtained building permits
(Regalia, Mansions at Acqualina, One Netanya Centre, Porsche Design,
Chateau Beach). By the end of fiscal year 2012-2013, it is estimated that two
additional projects will have started (Solis and Jade 4).
The seven (7) new high-rises will add 706 residential units and 43,000 square
feet of commercial/office space to the City with estimated total construction value
of $575,000,000. In addition, there is $170,000,000 in estimated construction
value for other non high-rise construction.
With the additional work load which is expected to last for the next three (3)
years, the Building Department will need additional staffing. This budget
amendment will allow the department to add an additional 5.25 FTEs.
ATTACHMENTS:
• Ordinance
• Budget Amendment
• Notice of Public Hearing Miami Herald
Agenda Item No.9D
Date 6/20/2013
68
