RESOLUTION NO. 2013- x OS <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br /> SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR <br /> THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GATEWAY PARK PEDESTRIAN <br /> BRIDGE AND FUNDING REIMBURSEMENT APPLICATION FOR <br /> THE TRANSPORTATION ALTERNATIVES PROGRAM (TAP) <br /> THROUGH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION <br /> (FDOT); AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL <br /> THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; <br /> PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> WHEREAS, the City Commission is seeking to construct a Pedestrian Bridge to provide <br /> pedestrian access to Gateway Park based on approved designs; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Gateway Park Pedestrian Bridge will cross five (5) busy lanes of traffic on <br /> Sunny Isles Boulevard (SR 826) and is an essential component of increased pedestrian safety, <br /> enhancing public access to Gateway Park, surrounding parks, and the rest of the City, connecting <br /> recreation areas and bike trails, and providing for unimpeded traffic flow on a major transportation <br /> artery that leads traffic out of the City; and <br /> WHEREAS, this project is an integral part of creating safe, intermodal transportation for <br /> our citizens, visitors, and especially children; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is a necessary connection point for pedestrians to safely access Gateway <br /> Park, Pier Park, and surrounding locations; and <br /> WHEREAS, pedestrian traffic will increase with the development of Gateway Park <br /> furthering the need for a safe route for residents, visitors, and children to access the Park and nearby <br /> destinations; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) through the Florida <br /> Department of Transportation (FDOT) will allow reimbursement funding to the City for the project <br /> through FDOT. <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br /> SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> Section 1. Expression of Support. The City Commission hereby supports the development of the <br /> Gateway Park Pedestrian Bridge and Funding Reimbursement Application for the Transportation <br /> Alternatives Program (TAP) through the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). <br /> Section 2. Authority of the City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all <br /> things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. <br /> Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. <br /> 1 <br />
