Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting September 19,2013 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida
Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and Mayor Edelcup reported that this Ordinance is to
ensure we do not have condo hotels on the west side of Collins Avenue and to lower the
density. This makes everything consistent with the Town Center Ordinance that we have
along the remainder of all of Collins Avenue. It will keep the density lower in the City and
keep us from having that concrete canyon look.
Public Speakers: None
Vice Mayor Aelion moved and Commissioner Levin seconded a motion to adopt the
Ordinance on second reading,as amended. Ordinance No.2013-411 was adopted by a
roll call vote of 5-0 in favor.
Vote: Commissioner Gatto yes
Commissioner Levin yes
Commissioner Scholl yes
Vice Mayor Aelion yes
Mayor Edelcup yes
10. RESOLUTIONS
10A. A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida,Approving
the Renewal of the Commercial Package Policy (Property, Liability, Automobile),
Workers Compensation, and Miscellaneous Insurances with Brown &
Brown/Preferred Government Insurance Trust (PGIT) for the Period of October 1,
2013 through September 30,2014, in an Amount Not to Exceed$865,950.00, as Outlined
in Exhibit"A";Authorizing the City Manager to Do All Things Necessary to Effectuate this
Resolution; Providing for an Effective Date.
Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and Acting Human Resources Manager Yael
Londono reported noting a 9%increase primarily due to the addition of the Pier as well as an
increase to payroll which affects our Workers Comp Insurance and the Liability Insurances.
Public Speakers: Bob Hollander;
Commissioner Scholl said the payroll went up 10% and the Comp went up 15%. Bob
Hollander of Brown and Brown Insurance said two factors in the Workers Comp are payroll
and rate. The only area that we really had an increase in was Worker's Compensation of
about 8% based on the National Council of Compensation, and if you combine the rate
increase and the payroll increase that came to about 20%. The other coverage was not an
increase because the premium change was due to the increased exposure of more property
values as well as payroll that affects the liability coverage. Mayor Edelcup said generally it
was the increased payroll and primarily the property where we added the Pier.
Vice Mayor Aelion moved and Commissioner Levin seconded a motion to approve the
Resolution. Resolution No. 2013-2098 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor.
5
