RESOLUTION NO. 2013 - 211e A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITI' OF SUNNI' ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING A CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE SUNNI' ISLES BEACH K -8 TRUST FUND FOR THE FLORIDA INTERNrATIONAL UNIVERSITY (FIU) FIRST GENERATION COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAiM, IN AN AMOUNT OF FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS (55,000.00); AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION: PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS. the City Commission has made a strong commitment to provide educational opportunities to the youth of the City of Sunny Isles Beach; and WHEREAS, the City's commitment to education is demonstrated by the partnership between the City and the School Board of Miami -Dade County to create the Norman S. Edelcup Sunny Isles Beach K -8 School; and WHEREAS, on December 15. 2011 via Resolution No. 2011 -1827, the City Commission created a College Scholarship Program for high school students from the City of Sunny Isles Beach: and WHEREAS, the City desires to continue its commitment to education and wishes to donate Five Thousand Dollars (55,000.00) to the Sunny Isles Beach K -8 Trust Fund for the FIU First Generation College Scholarship Program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNI' ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval of Contribution. The City Commission hereby approves a contribution of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) to the Sunny Isles Beach K -8 Trust Fund for the FIU First Generation College Scholarship Program. Section 2. Authorization of Citv Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date.
