through a webpage "Storybook" and mapping tool created by the Miami -Dade County Information Technology Department and the Community Information and Outreach Department, in collaboration with our municipal partners, and WHEREAS, a reduction in automobile travel and the expansion of non - motorized transportation such as bicycling reduces traffic congestion, decreases greenhouse gas emissions, improves air quality, reduces our dependence on foreign oil, and enhances the overall quality of life in a community; and WHEREAS, the increased activity and daily exercise provided by bicycling improves people's health, fitness, vitality, and overall well - being; and WHEREAS, the education of cyclists and motorists as to the proper and safe operation of bicycles is important to ensure the safety and comfort of all, and WHEREAS, Miami -Dade County works cooperatively with neighboring counties. Broward and Palm Beach, through the Florida Department of Transportation on regional transportation issues including the Bicycle and Pedestrian component of the Regional Long Range Transportation Plan; and WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is supportive of this initiative of Miami -Dade County which promotes a healthy lifestyle; and WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach should declare the Month of March as ``Bike305 Month" to encourage families to connect to their community by bicycles and promote physical activity. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Declaring the Month of March. The City Commission hereby declares the month of March as "Bike305 Month ". Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
