RESOLUTION NO. 2019- �a3Z <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br /> ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR SENATE BILL <br /> 182 WHICH WOULD REPEAL THE PREEMPTION OF LOCAL LAWS <br /> REGARDING THE USE OR SALE OF POLYSTYRENE PRODUCTS; <br /> URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE AND GOVERNOR RON <br /> DESANTIS TO SUPPORT AND APPROVE THE LEGISLATION; <br /> DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO DISTRIBUTE COPIES OF THIS <br /> RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> WHEREAS, Senator Linda Stewart has filed Senate Bill 182 for consideration by the <br /> Florida Legislature which repeals the preemption of local laws regarding the use or sale of <br /> polystyrene products; and <br /> WHEREAS,the City Commission believes that environmental issues of this nature should <br /> be determined locally, in accordance with the City's home rule authority; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of residents and visitors of the City, and of the State <br /> of Florida, to adopt Senate Bill 182. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br /> CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> Section 1. Support of Senate Bill 182. The City Commission hereby expresses support for <br /> Senate Bill 182 and urges the Florida Legislature to adopt, and Governor Ron DeSantis to support <br /> and approve the bill. <br /> Section 2. Direction to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to distribute copies <br /> of this Resolution to Senator Linda Stewart, Governor Ron DeSantis, the Speaker of the Florida <br /> House of Representatives, the President of the Florida Senate, the Florida League of Cities, and <br /> the Miami-Dade League of Cities. <br /> Section 3.
