RESOLUTION NO. 2020 - 3051, <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br /> SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR <br /> FLORIDA SENATE BILL 1752 AND FLORIDA HOUSE BILL 1317 <br /> WHICH WOULD REVISE AND STRENGTHEN CRIMINAL <br /> PENALTIES RELATING TO VIOLATIONS FOR CONDOMINIUM <br /> ASSOCIATIONS; URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE AND <br /> GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS TO SUPPORT AND APPROVE THE <br /> LEGISLATION; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO <br /> DISTRIBUTE COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR <br /> AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> WHEREAS, Senator Jason Pizzo has filed Senate Bill 1752 for consideration by the <br /> Florida Legislature,and House Representative Javier E. Fernandez has filed House Bill 1317 which <br /> would amend Chapter 718 of the Florida Statutes, which regulates Condominium Associations in <br /> the State of Florida; and <br /> WHEREAS, these two (2) bills would revise and strengthen criminal penalties relating to <br /> the acceptance of things or services of value or kickbacks, violations relating to official association <br /> records, and fraudulent voting activities related to association elections; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of condominium owners and residents throughout the <br /> State of Florida for the Florida Legislature to adopt proposed Senate Bill 1752 and House Bill <br /> 1317. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br /> CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> Section 1. Recitals. The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and incorporated <br /> herein. <br /> Section 2. Support for Senate Bill 1752 and House Bill 1317. The City Commission hereby <br /> expresses support for Senate Bill 1752 and House Bill 1317 and urges the Florida Legislature to <br /> adopt and Governor Ron DeSantis to support and approve said bills. <br /> Section 3. Directions to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to distribute copies <br /> of this Resolution to Senator Jason Pizzo and House Representative Javier E. Fernandez, Governor <br /> Ron DeSantis, the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, the President of the Florida <br /> Senate, the Florida League of Cities, and the Miami-Dade County League of Cities. <br /> Section 4. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED this 20t1' day of F-.ruary 2020. <br /> Georg- .
