<br /> I. Background
<br /> Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of
<br /> race, color or national origin in programs and activities receiving federal
<br /> financial assistance. Specifically, Title VI provides that"no person in the United
<br /> States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from
<br /> participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination
<br /> under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance" (42 U.S.C.
<br /> Section 2000d).
<br /> It is the policy of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, under Title VI of the Civil Rights
<br /> Act of 1964; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; Age Discrimination
<br /> Act of 1975; Section 324 of the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1973; Civil Rights
<br /> Restoration Act of 1987; and related statutes and regulations, that no person
<br /> shall on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, religion,
<br /> family status, ancestry, marital status, gender identity, gender expression,
<br /> sexual orientation, pregnancy, handicap, or income status, be excluded from
<br /> participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to
<br /> discrimination or retaliation under any federally or non-federally funded
<br /> program or activity administered by the City or its sub-recipients.
<br /> The City of Sunny Isles Beach is committed to ensuring that no person is
<br /> excluded from participation in, or denied the benefits of its services including
<br /> transit, on the basis of race, color, or national origin, as protected by Title VI in
<br /> Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Circular 4702.1.B.
<br /> II. Policy Statement
<br /> The City of Sunny Isles Beach values diversity and welcomes input from all
<br /> interested parties, regardless of cultural identity, background or income level.
<br /> Moreover, the City believes that the best programs and services result from
<br /> careful consideration of all of its communities and when those communities are
<br /> involved in the transportation decision-making process. Thus, the City does not
<br /> tolerate discrimination in any of its programs, services or activities. Pursuant to
<br /> Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987,
<br /> the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), and other federal and state
<br /> authorities, the City will not exclude from participation in, deny the benefits of,
<br /> or subject to discrimination anyone on the grounds of race, color, national
