130

Coastal Systems is leading a team of design professionals
in the implementation of Maurice Gibb Memorial Park,
located at 18th Street and Purdy Avenue. The City of
Miami Beach aims to create a one-of-a-kind park,
honoring Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees, while
incorporating sustainable and resilient design features.

Coastal Systems developed the 2-acre park design while
incorporating community feedback through multiple
community meetings and workshops. The proposed
improvements will include an outlook platform, fishing
piers, shade structures, dog park, open sodded area,
landscape, and an ADA children's play area designed by
Monstrum, a custom playground manufacturer from
Denmark.

Coastal Systems is also designing a new seawall, planting
mangroves and enhancing the artificial reef by adding rip-
rap, in order to create a living shoreline and enhance
water quality. The overwater deck and handrails will be
designed using recycled materials.

Coastal Systems is providing the City with master
planning, engineering design, environmental permitting,
construction cost estimates, bidding/award assistance,
and construction administration services. Coastal Systems
is also leading the environmental sub-consultant to
manage the testing and mitigation of contaminated soil at
the site.

Environmental permits are being processed through
Miami-Dade County DERM, Florida Department of
Environmental Protection, National Pollutant Discharge
Elimination System (NPDES), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
and the City of Miami Beach.

As part of the City’s resiliency and sustainability
initiatives, Coastal Systems will consider and provide
alternatives to incorporate into the park’s design:

• Raising of the seawall to elevation +5.7’ NAVD to
provide a continuous flood barrier.
• Drainage system design using projected water levels
in anticipation of sea level rise.
• Soil management plan to replace/cap contaminated
soils associated with the historical land use of the
site.
MMaauurriiccee GGiibbbb MMeemmoorriiaall PPaarrkk,, MMiiaammii BBeeaacchh
Surveying
Civil Engineering
Stormwater Management
Environmental Permitting

RREELLEEVVAANNTT SSEERRVVIICCEESS::
Structural Design
Bidding
Construction Administration
Public Meetings
CCLLIIEENNTT:: City of Miami Beach
Ms. Colette Satchell
1700 Convention Center Drive
Miami Beach, Florida 33139
Tel: (305) 673-7071 ext.6401
Email: colettesatchell@miamibeachfl.gov

PPRROOJJEECCTT SSCCHHEEDDUULLEE:: 2017 – present

CCOONNSSTTRRUUCCTTIIOONN CCOOSSTT:: $6M (estimated)

Previous ExperienceCoastal Systems International, Inc.
