ORDINANCE NO. 2014 -A22 <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br /> SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 265, <br /> ARTICLE IX, "SIGN REGULATIONS" TO CLARIFY THAT <br /> ELECTRONIC SIGNS ARE PERMITTED IN GOVERNMENT <br /> FACILITIES LOCATED IN THE CITY; PROVIDING FOR <br /> SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR INCLUSION IN THE CODE; <br /> PROVIDING FOR REPEAL OF CONFLICTING PROVISIONS; AND <br /> PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> WHEREAS, the purpose of Chapter 265, Article IX, "Sign Regulations" is to regulate all <br /> exterior and interior signs placed for exterior observations so as to protect property values, <br /> promote the attractive character of the community, reduce visual pollution and protect the public <br /> safety in travel and transportation; and <br /> WHEREAS, these sign regulations balance the need to protect the public health, safety, <br /> convenience and general welfare against the need for adequate identification, communication <br /> and advertising; and <br /> WHEREAS, these sign regulations do not specifically authorize the placement of <br /> electronic copy signs at the City's Government Center or at any of the City's parks; and <br /> WHEREAS, after reviewing the proposed recommendations, the City Commission <br /> wishes to amend Chapter 265, Article IX, "Sign Regulations", and allow for electronic signs in <br /> the City's Government Center and certain parks located in the City, in order to facilitate <br /> advertising of City sponsored events and activities, emergency messages, and other <br /> governmental purposes, subject to the following regulations. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY <br /> OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> Section 1. Incorporation of Recitals. The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby <br /> ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part by this <br /> Ordinance upon adoption hereof <br /> Section 2. Amendment. Chapter 265, Article IX, "Sign Regulations", of the City Code is <br /> amended to read as follows: <br /> §265-58. Supplemental regulations. <br /> B. Changeable copy signs. <br /> 4) Notwithstanding any other provisions in Chapter 265 to the contrary, <br /> changeable copy signs shall be permitted in government facilities for the sole <br />
