RESOLUTION NO. 2021 - 322 A
<br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH,
<br /> FLORIDA, PURSUANT TO SECTION 5.1 OF THE MUNICIPAL CHARTER, CALLING FOR A
<br /> SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 25, 2022, FOR THE PURPOSE
<br /> OF SUBMITTING TO THE ELECTORATE OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH THE
<br /> NAMES OF ALL QUALIFIED CANDIDATES FOR ELECTION TO THE POSITION OF
<br /> COMMISSIONER SEAT 1, AND COMMISSIONER SEAT 3; PROVIDING FOR A RUN-OFF
<br /> ELECTION, IF NECESSARY, TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2022;
<br /> DESIGNATING ONE REGISTERED VOTER WHO SHALL SERVE WITH THE CITY
<br /> MANAGER AND THE CITY CLERK AS THE CANVASSING BOARD FOR SAID SPECIAL
<br /> ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR CONDUCTING THE ELECTIONS, POLLING PLACES, FORM
<br /> OF BALLOT, VOTER REGISTRATION, NOTICE OF ELECTIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN
<br /> EFFECTIVE DATE.
<br /> WHEREAS, Vice Mayor Larisa Svechin and Commissioner Dana Goldman have both
<br /> tendered their resignation as Commissioner Seat 1 and Commissioner Seat 3, respectively, of
<br /> the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City") effective November 3, 2021; and
<br /> WHEREAS, more than six (6) months remain in both Commissioners' unexpired terms; and
<br /> WHEREAS, as a result thereof, the vacancies must be filled by a special election to be held
<br /> not sooner than forty-five (45) days or more than ninety (90) days following the occurrence of
<br /> the vacancies; and
<br /> WHEREAS, Section 5.1 of the Municipal Charter of the City of Sunny Isles Beach provides
<br /> that a special election shall be held when required; and
<br /> WHEREAS, the City Commission is required to designate a registered voter to serve with
<br /> the City Manager and the City Clerk as the City of Sunny Isles Beach's Canvassing Board for the
<br /> Special Election and Run-Off Election.
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY
<br /> ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
<br /> Section 1. Calling a Special Election. In accordance with the Municipal Charter of the City
<br /> of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, and the general laws of the State of Florida, a Special Election is
<br /> hereby called and directed to be held in the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, from 7:00 a.m.
<br /> to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, and a Run-Off Election, if necessary, from 7:00 a.m.
<br /> to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, for the purpose of submitting to the electorate the
<br /> names of all qualified candidates for election to the position of Commissioner Seat 1 and
<br /> Commissioner Seat 3, for the unexpired terms, with the qualifying period being from 9:00 a.m.
<br /> on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 19, 2021.
<br /> Section 2. Designation of One Registered Voter to Serve on the Canvassing Board. The
<br /> City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach hereby designates Gloria Taft, as the
