The City's historic <br />Newport Fishing Pier (Sunny Isles Fishing Pier) is a local favorite while Samson Oceanfront Park <br />provides a children's play area, and space to relax, socialize, and view the sun rise over the <br />Atlantic. <br />Originally developed as a tourist resort in 1920 by land investor Harvey Graves in 1920, the City <br />was designed to be the "Venice of America". Developers transformed the sleepy beach into a <br />desirable beach front community with islands, canals, inlets, and waterfront properties that <br />faced the Biscayne Bay and Intracoastal Waterway. The City grew steadily through the later part <br />of the 1900's as the area became known as a beach playground for the rich and famous.
