RESOLUTION NO. 2022- 1 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF <br />TRANSPORTATION'S RECOMMENDATION TO IMPLEMENT EXCLUSIVE <br />PEDESTRIAN PHASE SIGNALIZATION AT VARIOUS INTERSECTIONS WITHIN THE <br />CITY; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO <br />EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City") has always placed a priority on pedestrian <br />safety and continuously endeavors to work closely with the Florida Department of Transportation <br />("FDOT") and Miami -Dade County ("MDC") to take measures to ensure pedestrian safety in the <br />City; and <br />WHEREAS, the City has been in constant communication with FDOT making several <br />recommendations and requests to improve pedestrian safety; and <br />WHEREAS, one of the City's requests was for exclusive pedestrian phase signalization <br />("EPPS") at certain high capacity intersections within the City; and <br />WHEREAS, EPPS requires all vehicles to be at a complete stop and remain stationary while <br />pedestrians cross, keeping pedestrians safe from turning vehicles; and <br />WHEREAS, FDOT conducted a feasibility study and recommends implementation of EPPS <br />along Collins Avenue, at the intersections of 172nd, 174tH, 178tH, and 183rd Streets <br />("Intersections"); and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to express its support for the implementation of <br />EPPS at the aforementioned Intersections by FDOT. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Express Support. The City Commission hereby expresses its support for the <br />implementation of exclusive pedestrian phase signalization at the aforementioned Intersections <br />by FDOT. <br />Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all <br />thing s necessary to effectuate this Resolution. <br />Section 3. Effective Date.
