RESOLUTION N0.2022 - <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, APPROVING AN IN-KIND DONATION TO iPREP ACADEMY NORTH, IN <br />AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TWELVE THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED TWENTY- <br />SIX DOLLARS ($4,878.00) FOR 30 STOP THE BLEED KITS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY <br />MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; <br />PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign and call -to -action, <br />encouraging bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding <br />emergency before professional help arrives; and <br />WHEREAS, Stop the Bleed Kits ("Kits") enable bystanders to be prepared to respond to a <br />bleeding emergency, as the kits include life-saving tools such as a tourniquet, QuikClot, gloves, <br />elastic and modular bandages, gauze, sponges, scissors, and an instructional guide; and <br />WHEREAS, iPrep Academy North is a Miami -Dade County public school, servicing a <br />multitude of students who are residents of the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City"); and <br />WHEREAS, the safety and protection of the City's school -aged children is of utmost <br />importance to the City, as evidenced by the City's past donations of Kits to both Norman S. <br />Edelcup/Sunny Isles Beach K — 8 School, and Alonzo & Tracy Mourning Senior High School; and <br />WHEREAS, in partnership with the school's principal, teachers will receive the proper <br />training to use the Kits in the event of an emergency; and <br />WHEREAS, the donation of the Kits, along with the training, will provide life-saving tools <br />that can help in the critical moments before first responders can arrive; and <br />WHEREAS, the availability of the Kits and training will empower teachers, staff and <br />students, with the essential tools to control life threatening bleeding from emergencies using <br />proven lifesaving equipment; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 172-5(B) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Sunny <br />Isles Beach ("City"), donation of in-kind goods must be approved by the affirmative votes of at <br />least four (4) members of the City Commission at a public meeting if such in-kind goods and <br />services exceed a total cost of $10,000.00; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to present an in-kind donation of 30 Kits to iPrep <br />Academy North, in an amount not to exceed Four Thousand Eight Hundred Seventy -Eight <br />Dollars ($4,878.00), and finds that said donation serves a municipal purpose. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />R2022 Donation In -Kind Goods - Stop the Bleed Kits iPrep Academy North -tc Page 1 of 2 <br />
