RESOLUTION NO. 2023 - "' lnr <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR HOUSE BILL 1 WHICH REVISES PROVISIONS <br />RELATING TO FAMILY EMPOWERMENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, FLORIDA TAX <br />CREDIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, & PART-TIME ENROLLMENT IN PUBLIC <br />SCHOOLS; URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE AND GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS <br />TO SUPPORT AND APPROVE THE LEGISLATION; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO <br />DISTRIBUTE COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, during the 2023 Legislative Session of the State of Florida, Representatives <br />Tuck and Plasencia sponsored House Bill 1, commonly referred to as the "School Choice Bill"; and <br />WHEREAS, for decades, Florida has been a leader in providing high quality education <br />options for its parents and students; <br />WHEREAS, the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship, the Family Empowerment Scholarship for <br />students attending private school, and the Family Empowerment Scholarship for students with <br />disabilities have provided parents and students with numerous educational options and <br />scholarship programs; <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City") affirms its stance in providing high quality <br />education for all students across the State of Florida; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that the passage of the aforementioned bill is in the <br />best interest of the City. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Support of House Bill 1. The City Commission hereby expresses support for House <br />Bill 1, and urges the Florida Legislature to adopt, and Governor Ron DeSantis to support and <br />approve, the bill. <br />Section 2. Directions to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to distribute copies <br />of this Resolution to Representatives Tuck and Plasencia, Governor Ron DeSantis, the Speaker of <br />the Florida House of Representatives, the President of the Florida Senate, the Florida League of <br />Cities, and the Miami -Dade League of Cities. <br />Section 3. Effective Date.
