RESOLUTION NO. 2023 - <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, APPROVING THE SELECTION OF MEMBERS TO THE MOBILITY AND <br />PEDESTRIAN SAFETY ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2023; <br />PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, in January of 2022, the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach <br />("City") adopted Ordinance No. 2022-577, establishing the "Mobility and Pedestrian Safety <br />Advisory Committee" ("MAPSAC" or "Committee"); and <br />WHEREAS, the MAPSAC is responsible for providing guidance and recommendations <br />regarding the City's efforts to provide and promote safe and efficient use of all transportation <br />modes within and immediately adjacent to the City, and all transportation systems, including <br />but not limited to, streets, sidewalks, and related transportation facilities; and <br />WHEREAS, the Committee shall be composed of seven (7) members who shall be <br />appointed for a one-year term, and which may be renewed by the City Commission as often as <br />desirable; and <br />WHEREAS, Section 74-8 of the City's Code of Ordinances provides thattheMayor shall <br />appoint the Chairperson and one (1) additional Committee member, the Vice Mayor shall <br />appoint two (2) Committee members, and the remaining City Commissioners shall appoint one <br />(1) Committee member each, and that the Vice Chairperson shall be selected by majority vote <br />of the members of the Committee; and <br />WHEREAS, Committee members shall be governed by the Rules of Procedure that <br />govern the City Commission, the Florida Sunshine and Public Records Laws, and the terms of <br />this Resolution; and <br />WHEREAS, City residents interested in serving on the Committee have submitted board <br />applications for the Commission's consideration. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Incorporation of Recitals. The foregoing recital paragraphs are hereby ratified <br />and confirmed as being true and the same are hereby made part of this Resolution. <br />Section 2. Appointment of Committee Members. The Mayor shall appoint the Chairperson <br />and one (1) additional Committee member, the Vice Mayor shall appoint two (2) Committee <br />members, the remaining City Commissioners shall appoint one (1) Committee member each, <br />and the Vice Chairperson shall be selected by a majority vote of the members of the <br />Committee. Additionally, a member of the Committee forfeits his or her right to serve on the <br />Committee if such member fails to comply with the requirements of the City Code, County <br />Code and state law for serving on the Committee.
