<br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH,
<br />FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT OF THE UNITED STATES HOUSE OF
<br />REPRESENTATIVES' RESOLUTION NO. 798, CONDEMNING SUPPORT OF HAMAS,
<br />HEZBOLLAH, AND OTHER TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS; DIRECTING THE CITY
<br />CLERK TO TRANSMIT CERTIFIED COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; AUTHORIZING
<br />THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS
<br />RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
<br />WHEREAS, since the launch of the unprovoked and unjustified war on the State of Israel
<br />on October 7, 2023, by the terrorist group Hamas, following the terrorist attack, there has been
<br />a national surge in anti-Semitic incidents, notably on college campuses; and
<br />WHEREAS, on October 19th, 2023, the City Commission passed Resolution No. 2023-
<br />3567, supporting the state of Israel and condemning the unprovoked and unjustified war
<br />launched by Hamas terrorists against the state of Israel; and
<br />WHEREAS, on November 2, 2023, the United States House of Representatives passed
<br />Resolution No. 798 (the "House Resolution"), condemning the support of Hamas, Hezbollah,
<br />and other terrorist organizations at higher education institutions, recognizing that such support
<br />can lead to the creation of a hostile environment for Jewish students, faculty, and staff; and
<br />WHEREAS, while there are no colleges within the city limits of Sunny Isles Beach (the
<br />"City"), the presence of public land holds the potential for situations that could foster hostility
<br />and danger, particularly against Jewish residents and visitors; and
<br />WHEREAS, it is imperative to condemn any action that supports Hamas, Hezbollah, or
<br />any other terrorist group, as well as public displays of anti-Semitism, which have no place in the
<br />City or anywhere else in the world; and
<br />WHEREAS, the City Commission restates its support the State of Israel and condemns
<br />Hamas' brutal war on the State of Israel; and
<br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is in the best interest of the City to express
<br />its support of the House Resolution, attached hereto as Exhibit "A".
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY
<br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
<br />Section 1. Expressing Support for the U.S. House of Representatives Resolution No. 798.
<br />The City Commission hereby supports the United States House of Representatives Resolution
<br />No. 798, condemning the support of Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist organizations at
<br />higher education institutions, recognizing that such support can lead to the creation of a hostile
<br />environment for Jewish students, faculty, and staff.
