Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160 <br />q 'i4 k <br />,Tr � L h4 (305) 947-0606 City Hall <br />(305) 949-3113 Fax <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners <br />VIA: Stan Morris, City Manager <br />FROM: Patricia Alvarez, Chairperson <br />DATE: November 16, 2023 <br />RE: Approval of Recommendations of the City's Environment Sustainability <br />Advisory Committee <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Presented for your consideration. <br />REASONS: <br />In January 2022, the City Commission adopted Ordinance No. 2022-576, establishing the "Environment <br />Sustainability Advisory Committee" (the "Committee"). The Committee is responsible for providing <br />guidance and recommendations regarding the City's efforts to provide and promote general <br />environmental improvement trends, green initiatives, and sustainable development, defined as a <br />pattern of resource use that aims to meet community needs while preserving the environment so that <br />these needs can be met, not only in the present, but in the indefinite future. <br />In calendar year 2023, the Committee met a total of eight (8) times and have submitted the following <br />recommendation: <br />The Committee recommends an increase in the tree count throughout the entire city. We would like <br />to initiate a pilot program in two different locations to monitor progress, Pelican Park and the vicinity <br />of Norman S. Edelcup Sunny Isles Beach K-8 School and Town Center Park. Our desire is to achieve ; <br />70 percent increase in the number of trees in these areas. Additionally, we are providing a list of salt - <br />tolerant and coastal area trees for your considetation, to be used at your discretion. <br />ATTACHMENTS: <br />Item Number: 10.13 <br />
