PROGRAM, OR AS A STAND-ALONE CLUB; AUTHORIZING
THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS
RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City") maintains a Creativity, Academic,
Sports, and Enrichment Program ("C.A.S.E.") at Pelican Community Park for school -aged
children, including, but not limited to, such programming as homework help, sports and fitness,
fun zones, and culinary creations; and
WHEREAS, the Sunny Isles Branch of the Miami -Dade County Public Library System
("Public Library"), holds certain events, including but not limited to a "Children's Stories and
Crafts" event which is presented in collaboration with the Chabad of Sunny Isles for children
aged six (6) through eleven (11) years, and which is described by the Sunny Isles Branch
Manager as a story time that uses books pulled from the library shelves, with the creation of
some crafts included, and with no religious instruction; and
WHEREAS, during the City Commission Workshop on February 15, 2024, the City
Commission discussed and considered the creation of a Hebrew Club for inclusion in the City's
C.A.S.E. Program, and to be facilitated by Mrs. Toby Baron of the Chabad of Sunny Isles; and
WHEREAS, during the City Commission Workshop, it was represented to the City
Commission that the Hebrew Club would not include any readings from the Torah, or any
religious instruction, but would be facilitated in the same manner as the "Children's Stories and
Crafts" event currently at the Public Library; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is in the best interest of the City and its
residents to create and maintain a Hebrew Club for children aged five (5) through eleven (11)
years, for inclusion in the City's C.A.S.E.
