REASONS: The purpose of this Resolution is to replace and update the repealed code of ordinance Sections 256-13 which previously set metered parking rates within the City and allow any future updates to be set by Resolution. The last increase to the City's parking meter rates was adopted nearly nine years ago, on November 19, 2015. Since then, there has been an increase in the expenses related to the modernization and maintenance of parking areas. The rise in inflation has made it more expensive to maintain and enforce the city's parking lots. The modernization of the lots for resident convenience and enforcement efficiency has also added to the higher costs. While these changes have taken place, the City of Sunny Isles Beach has remained charging a low rate, even when compared to neighboring beachfront municipalities. To combat the higher expenses and keep up with the latest technology for the benefit of all , a $2.00 hourly parking rate increase is being proposed for all city operated parking lots and garages. Residents who use the PayByPhone application and have obtained a City of Sunny Isles Beach Resident ID Card, will be eligible to register their vehicles for a $2.00 / hour discounted rate at all metered parking within the City, resulting in a net zero financial impact to our residents.
