"' 9F 5VK Ar
City of Sunny Isles Beach
18070 Collins Avenue
Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160
(305) 947-0606 City Hall
(305)949-3113 Fax
MEMORANDUM
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners
VIA: Stan Morris, City Manager
FROM: Wendy Bednarz, Assistant to Deputy City Manager
DATE: November 21, 2024
RE: Renewal of a Lease Agreement with the Florida Department of
Environmental Protection for Newport Fishing Pier and Restaurant
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this Resolution.
REASONS:
The City of Sunny Isles Beach first entered into a lease agreement with the Bureau of Public Land
Administration, a division of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, on September 19,
2008. This agreement covers the state land in which the city owned pier and restaurant is built upon. As
a requirement of our continued use of the state land for this purpose, the State has provided a renewed
lease effective December 8, 2023 through April 23, 2027.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The lease agreement allows for operation of the public fishing pier, with a bait booth, tackle shop and
restaurant, along with a lifeguard station and aquatic safety center. Newport Pier is owned by the City
of Sunny Isles Beach, however, the land the pier occupies is owned by the State. This lease agreement is
required to continue to operate the restaurant and pier activities on state land.
Item Number: 9.0
476
