RESOLUTION NO. 2024- J <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, CONDEMNING THE ANTI-SEMITIC ATTACKS ON ISRAELI SOCCER FANS <br />IN AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT <br />CERTIFIED COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO <br />DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING <br />FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City") is home to a diverse population, <br />including a significant and vibrant Jewish and Israeli community, and stands firmly against all <br />forms of anti-Semitism, bigotry, and hate; and <br />WHEREAS, recent anti-Semitic attacks on Israeli soccer fans in Amsterdam, Netherlands, <br />on November 7, 2024, have drawn international condemnation, reflecting the persistent and <br />unacceptable presence of anti-Semitism in modern society; and <br />WHEREAS, such hateful acts threaten the fundamental values of respect, inclusion, and <br />human dignity upheld by democratic societies around the world; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission is committed to denouncing acts of hate wherever they <br />occur and standing in solidarity with victims of anti-Semitism; and <br />WHEREAS, the City further affirms its commitment to doing all things necessary to <br />ensure the safety, security, and well-being of its Jewish community and all residents; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes the importance of a unified global response <br />to combat hate and prejudice, ensuring that such incidents are unequivocally condemned; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is the best interest of its residents and <br />stakeholders to approve this resolution. <br />WHEREAS, the City wishes to condemn all acts of hate in any form whether they target <br />individuals or Communities based on race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, <br />political affiliation, or any other basis of identity, including attacks to our teenagers on August <br />4th, 2024, in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, and the attack on October 23rd, 2024, to Jewish <br />Commissioner Jerry Joseph.1 <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Condemning Attacks. The City Commission hereby strongly condemns the anti- <br />Semitic attacks on Israeli soccer fans in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and reaffirms its stance <br />against antisemitism and hate in all forms. <br />1 This resolution was amended during its consideration.
