RESOLUTION NO. 2014- 234.1 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br />SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY <br />ATTORNEY TO RETAIN MIGUEL DEGRANDY OF HOLLAND <br />AND KNIGHT TO REPRESENT THE CITY CLERK IN THE CASE <br />STYLED LEWIS J. THALER V. GEORGE "BUD" SCHOLL, <br />PENELOPE TOWNSEND, IN HER CAPACITY AS SUPERVISOR <br />OF ELECTIONS OF MIAMI -DADE COUNTY, AND JANE HINES, <br />IN HER CAPACITY AS CITY CLERK OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH; <br />PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, on or about November 17. 2014, a lawsuit was filed to contest the recent <br />mayoral elections held on November 4. 2014: and <br />WHEREAS, the City Clerk, Jane Hines, was named as a defendant in her official capaciq ; <br />1i4 <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to grant the City Attorney with the authority to <br />hire special counsel to represent the City Clerk in this matter. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Authoritv of the Citv Attomev. The City Commission hereby provides the City <br />Attorney with the authority to hire Miguel Degrandy of Holland and Knight to represent the City <br />Clerk, Jane Hines, in the pending case styled as Thaler v. Scholl. et al.. Case No. 14- 29339- CA -01. <br />Section 2. Effective Date. This Resolution will become effective upon adoption. <br />PASSED and ADOPTED this 181h day of December 201 <br />George[.
