RESOLUTION NO. 2026 -� <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, ADOPTING A SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY FOR ELECTED OFFICIALS; <br />AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO <br />EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE <br />DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City") previously <br />directed staff to develop a Social Media Policy (the "Policy") to guide elected officials in their <br />use of social media platforms based on best management practices; and <br />WHEREAS, the purpose of the Policy is to provide clear guidance regarding elected <br />officials' use of personal and professional social media accounts and to establish a process for <br />requests relating to the City's official government social media pages; and <br />WHEREAS, City staff presented a draft Policy for discussion by the City Commission at its <br />January 15, 2026 Workshop; and <br />WHEREAS, following the Commission's deliberations, staff incorporated minor revisions <br />for final approval, including: (1) correcting multiple instances of the term "commissioner" to <br />"elected officials" for consistency and accuracy; (2) replacing the phrase "open records" with <br />"public records" in all instances referencing the Florida Public Records Act; (3) clarifying in one <br />instance, with statutory citation, that certain records are subject to the Florida Public Records <br />Act and the Government in the Sunshine Law; and (4) making minor grammatical and <br />punctuation revisions and language refinements to improve clarity; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that adoption of the Social Media Policy for <br />Elected Officials is in the best interest of the City and promotes transparency, accountability, <br />and compliance with applicable Florida law. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Adoption of Policy. The City Commission hereby adopts the Policy, attached <br />hereto as Exhibit "A". <br />Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all <br />things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. <br />Section 3. Effective Date.
