RESOLUTION NO.2026 -152�— <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, JOINING MIAMI-DADE COUNTY IN URGING THE TRUMP <br />ADMINISTRATION TO SUSPEND ALL CUBA-RELATED FEDERAL LICENSES AND <br />GENERAL AUTHORIZATIONS PENDING FULL FEDERAL AUDITS AND <br />INVESTIGATIONS; URGING STRICT ENFORCEMENT OF FEDERAL SANCTIONS TO, <br />ENSURE THAT NO FUNDS, GOODS, OR SERVICES BENEFIT THE CUBAN <br />COMMUNIST REGIME; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT COPIES OF <br />THIS RESOLUTION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS <br />NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE <br />DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the Miami -Dade County Board of County Commissioners (the "County") <br />voted unanimously to urge the administration of President Donald J. Trump to suspend all Cuba - <br />related federal licenses and general authorizations pending full audits by the Office of Foreign <br />Assets Control ("OFAC") and the Bureau of Industry and Security ("BIS"); and <br />WHEREAS, the County has expressed concern that certain federal authorizations and <br />sanctions loopholes have been misused as commercial channels that benefit the Cuban <br />communist regime and its affiliated networks; and <br />WHEREAS, the Cuban communist regime continues to repress its people, jail political <br />dissidents, deny basic freedoms, and act in ways contrary to democratic values and United <br />States national security interests; and <br />WHEREAS, many residents of the County and the City of Sunny Isles Beach (the City") <br />fled Cuba seeking freedom and opportunity in the United States, and the City stands in solidarity <br />with those who oppose dictatorship and repression; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is in the interest of its residents to urge <br />federal authorities to ensure that no United States licenses, authorizations, funds, goods, or <br />services are exploited to strengthen or provide economic lifelines to the Cuban communist <br />regime. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Urging Federal Action. The City Commission hereby joins the County in urging the <br />Trump Administration to suspend all Cuba -related federal licenses and general authorizations <br />pending full audits and investigations by the OFAC and the BIS, and to ensure strict enforcement <br />of all federal sanctions to prevent any abuse that benefits the Cuban communist regime. <br />Section 2. Direction to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of <br />this Resolution to the President of the United States, the Vice President of the United States, <br />the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of <br />@Bd@F417c02b Page 1 of 2 964 <br />
