RESOLUTION NO. 2026 - ® ?J rl <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, ADOPTING THE 2025-2030 MIAMI-DADE COUNTY LOCAL MITIGATION <br />STRATEGY, ATTACHED HERETO AS EXHIBIT "A"; AUTHORIZING THE CITY <br />MANAGER TO IDENTIFY AND PRIORITIZE HAZARD MITIGATION GRANT <br />PROGRAM PROJECTS TO BECOME A PART OF THE LOCAL AND STATEWIDE <br />HAZARD MITIGATION STRATEGY; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER <br />TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING <br />FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency funded a national initiative to <br />help communities develop local mitigation strategies that identify projects to mitigate the <br />effects of natural disasters and to identify sources of funds to address those problems; and <br />WHEREAS, the State of Florida Department of Commerce administers a contract with <br />Miami -Dade County to provide funding for local governments to jointly develop a Local <br />Mitigation Strategy as a component of the Statewide Mitigation Strategy that is managed by <br />the Florida Division of Emergency Management; and <br />WHEREAS, the County previously entered into agreements with local municipalities to <br />establish a unified process for developing the Local Mitigation Strategy and convey funds for <br />participation in the plan development; and <br />WHEREAS, the 2025-2030 Miami -Dade County Local Mitigation Strategy was introduced <br />to the Miami -Dade Board of County Commissioners on February 10, 2026, and later adopted on <br />April 21, 2026; and <br />WHEREAS, the Local Mitigation Strategy develops a comprehensive approach to <br />effectively reduce the impact of current and future hazards and risks faced by local <br />communities within Miami -Dade County; and <br />WHEREAS, the Local Mitigation Strategy meets State contract requirements and was <br />accomplished with the participation of local governments, the Miami -Dade School Board, and a <br />broad range of private not -for -profit agencies, businesses and universities coordinated by the <br />Miami -Dade Office of Emergency Management; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes that the City's participation in the County's <br />Adopted Local Mitigation Strategy, attached hereto, in part, as Exhibit "A," serves a critical <br />public purpose and ultimately benefits residents and businesses affected by flood events and <br />other natural disasters; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds the adoption of the 2025-2030 Miami -Dade <br />County Local Mitigation Strategy to be in the best interest and welfare of the residents of this <br />City. <br />R2026 Adopt MDC Local Mitigation Strategy 2025-2030.doc Page 1 of 2 <br />
