Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting June 18,2015 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida
helped form a Task Force of our neighbors: the Mayor of Golden Beach, the Mayor of Bal
Harbour, the Mayor of Surfside, and the Mayor of Miami Beach. We are all getting together
in July to do a joint effort going forward in dealing with the State, Federal and County
Governments on beach renourishment. If we all get together and call a Press Conference we
may be able to put some heat on our government entities with the intention of moving along
our beach renourishment efforts. At the next meeting City Manager Russo might have more
information regarding what our engineers are finding and what some of the potential solutions
might look like.
Mayor Scholl said the other thing that has been near and dear to many of us is we have
contracted for a very comprehensive Traffic Study and we call it a "Traffic and Pedestrian
Safety Study". We are looking at all the traffic that runs through the City, all the ways our
residents move through the City including walking and bicycling, all the ways that folks get
around. To that point, at the back of the Commission Chambers are some brochures for the
first public Town Hall Meeting regarding the "Comprehensive Plan Update and the
Transportation Master Plan"which will take place on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in
the Conference Room at Winston Towers 600. Our Consultants are reaching out to the
community because we want to hear from our residents who know better than anybody about
what the problems are in being a pedestrian in that area. We are going to have a series of
these Town Hall Meetings with the Consultants and the City Manager, and it will be an
interactive meeting as they want to hear from you, they want to get your ideas. When folks
call him on traffic, he listens to what they say and has been feeding it to our Consultants.
Mayor Scholl said that is kind of a quick State of the City, you know how to contact all of us,
and it is a team effort. We have a great Commission and a great staff, and everybody has been
supportive and that is why we are getting things done. He feels that everyone's heart is in the
right place and a common vision has been shaping up on what we have been doing and the
way we have been moving forward. He thanked the Commission and the Staff and he is
looking forward to the next six months, and maybe for next year's State of the City we will be
reporting a lot more good things.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
3A. Regular City Commission Meeting—May 21, 2015.
Action: Commissioner Goldman moved and Vice Mayor Gatto seconded a motion to
approve the above mentioned Summary Minutes.
