RESOLUTION NO. 2015- 24(03 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE AMERICAN JEWISH COMMITTEE'S MAYORS UNITED AGAINST AiNTI-SEMITISM INITIATIVE; PROVIDING DIRECTIVE TO THE CITY CLERK; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the American Jewish Committee (AJC) has been the leading global Jewish advocacy organization for more than a century: and WHEREAS, the AJC's agenda is to enhance the well-being of the Jewish people and advance the human rights and democratic values for all; and WHEREAS, through local, regional, and national advocacy with Members of Congress, AJC promotes domestic policies and legislation that support their global agenda; and WHEREAS. anti-Semitism continues to be a malady worldwide; and WHEREAS. at a conference in Brussels. Belgium. the AJC released 4 "Call to Action" to the European Union to prioritize and fight the escalating problem of anti-Semitism; and WHEREAS, on the heels of the conference in Belgium, the AJC founded the Mayors United Against Anti-Semitism Initiative; and WHEREAS. Mayors United Against Anti-Semitism is an initiative that calls on their European counterparts to publicly address and take concrete actions against rising anti-Semitism; and WHEREAS, the Mayors United Against Anit-Semitism statement affirms a core set of principles, including the condemnation of anti-Jewish hatred in all forms; a declaration that anti- Semitism and any prejudices due to religious differences are inconsistent with core American values; and the belief that the promotion of mutual understanding and respect among all citizens is essential to good governance and democratic life; and WHEREAS, the City Commission believes that anti-Semitism continues to be a problem internationally, as well as in Sunny Isles Beach and the rest of the nation; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to express support of the AJC's Mayors United Against Anti-Semitism Initiative. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Support of the AJC's Mayors United Against Anti-Semitism Initiative. The City Commission hereby supports the AJC's Mayors United Against Anti-Semitisn Initiative.
