Approval of Minutes for the August 12, 2008 Historic Preservation Board Meeting: <br /> Action: Cassey Gabor noted a correction on page 2,under Old Business,it should state the name <br /> of the Temple, Temple B'nai Zion. <br /> Phillip Chemoff moved and Cassey Gabor and Shari Blank seconded a motion to approve the <br /> August 12,2008 Board meeting summary minutes,as amended. The motion was approved <br /> by a 6-0-1 (Bonita Shoki absent) vote. <br /> 3. Update/Report of City Manager A. John Szerlag on the Reconstruction and Design of the <br /> Sunny Isles Beach/Newport Pier. <br /> Action: City Manager Szerlag reported on the status of the Pier, and handed out the Quarterly <br /> Update noting that staff is still in the process of gathering required permits, and presented two <br /> large volumes that consisted of two Permits. He also handed out a copy of a sample letter <br /> regarding the Fishing Pier Restaurant Project that was mailed out to several restaurants/chains to <br /> join staff on Friday, January 23, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. at the Newport Resort, to tour the site, <br /> review the plans,share ideas,and discuss the project in detail He noted that two have declined. <br /> Billy's Stonecrab Seafood Restaurant, and the Bahama Breeze Restaurant. He said that staff is <br /> also looking into the concept of a Food Court by subdividing the 5,000 feet. Carabarra's <br /> Restaurant and Darden Restaurants,were also suggested to the City Manager. It was noted that <br /> Dr. Comfeld maintains the Liquor License. <br /> City Historian Schulman presented two pictures of the Pier from the 1950's and in 1984 when <br /> the County started to restore it. <br /> Summary Minutes: 2009-0114 HPB Mtg Page 1 of 3 <br />
