Where electrical identification markings and devices will be concealed by acoustical ceilings and similar <br /> finishes, coordinate installation of these items before ceiling installation. <br /> <br />1.6 <br /> <br />SUBSTITUTIONS (APPLY TO ALL SECTIONS OF DIVISION 16000) <br />A. Trade Names: <br /> <br />1. When reference is made in the contract documents to trade names, brand names, or to the name of <br /> manufacturers, such references are made solely to indicate that products of that description may be <br /> furnished and are not intended to restrict competitive bidding. If it is desired to use products of trade or <br /> brand names or manufacturer’s names which are different from those mentioned in the contract <br /> documents, application for the approval of the use of such products must reach the hands of the engineer <br /> at least ten days prior to the date set for the opening of bids. <br />2. The burden of providing acceptability of a proposed product for use in place of a product or products <br /> designated in the contract documents rests on the party submitting the request for approval. The writ ten <br /> applications for approval of a proposed product must be accompanied by technical data, which the party <br /> requesting approval desired to submit in support of his application. <br />3. To be approved, a proposed product must also meet or exceed all express requirements of the contract <br /> documents. If the submittal is accepted by the Engineer, an addendum will be issued to all prospective <br /> bidders. <br />4. Unless requests for approval of other products have been received and approvals have been published by <br /> addendum in accordance with the above procedure, the successful bidder may furnish no products of any <br /> trade names, brand names, or manufacturer’s names expect those designated in the contract documents. <br /> <br />B. No claims by the Contractor as to the special fitness of any material or apparatus specified or his inability to <br /> produce first-class work with the same, shall be entertained unless such claim is referred to the Engineer <br /> before the work is started. <br /> <br />C. If any equipment proposed is of larger size that the designed selection or involves larger controls, or any <br /> contingent difference which requires additional space, equipment, apparatus, and the like, its use is not permit <br /> ted. <br /> <br />PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br /> <br />2.1 <br /> <br />SUPPORTING DEVICES <br />A. Material: Cold-formed steel, with corrosion-resistant coating acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction. <br /> <br />B. Metal Items for Use Outdoors or in Damp Locations: Hot-dip galvanized steel. <br />Slotted-Steel Channel Supports: Flange edges turned toward web, and 9/16-inch- diameter slotted holes at a maxi- <br />mum of 2 inches o.c., in webs. <br />1. Channel Thickness: Selected to suit structural loading. <br />2. Fittings and Accessories: Products of the same manufacturer as channel supports. <br /> <br />C. Raceway and Cable Supports: Manufactured clevis hangers, riser clamps, straps, threaded C-clamps with <br /> retainers, ceiling trapeze hangers, wall brackets, and spring-steel clamps or click-type hangers. <br /> <br />D. Pipe Sleeves: ASTM A 53, Type E, Grade A, Schedule 40, galvanized steel, plain ends. <br /> <br />E. Cable Supports for Vertical Conduit: Factory-fabricated assembly consisting of threaded body and <br /> insulating wedging plug for electrical cables in riser conduits. Plugs have number and size of conductor <br /> gripping holes as required to suit individual risers. Body constructed of malleable-iron casting with hot-dip <br /> galvanized finish. <br /> <br />F. Expansion Anchors: Carbon-steel wedge or sleeve type.
