Florida
Client: The City of Fort Lauderdale
Scope: Master Planning, Detailed Design and ConstructioAdministration Services
Scale: 28 Acres
As urban development continued along the New River in Fort Lauderdale during the early
go's, the Riverfront became increasingly more unattractive and inaccessible to the public.
EDSA shared in the City's vision of a pedestrian-oriented downtown destination, intended
to spur economic development along the lesser known water amenity. EDSA designed a
master plan for a one-mile continuous linear park along the New River, establishing 28 acres of
waterfront public access within blocks of the central business district. The plan extended into
the central district with linkages and a coordinated parking program, making the Riverwalk an
icon of urban design. Today, the Riverwalk is an animated urban waterfront with pedestrian-
oriooiodactivi\yconto/oaodheaiu/ooaou/nho/ ofpoh|ioh>oiiUoaaodu8raotiuns. 00chao
the Performing Arts Center, Discovery Center, Las Olas Shoppes, Bubier Park, entertainment
complex, 100-slip public marina, waterfront restaurants, and business centers. Completed
in 1994, Riverwalk has attracted hundreds of millions of dollars in investment into the City's
core.
14 EDSA's Submittal for RFQ No. 12-04-02
