<br /> 0 Curtis + Rogers was a part of the Master Plan process for the Broward Courthouse
<br /> ® Complex. Currently under design is Phase 1 of that Master Plan which involves a new
<br /> e Courthouse Building and Plaza fronting SE 6th Street in Downtown Ft. Lauderdale. The
<br /> Plaza hos been designed to function as a public space for large and small civic gather.
<br /> ® ings, and for the groups that typically gather in front of this institution, including vendors
<br /> ® and families with children. Shade is provided by a grove of Royal Palms on the west side
<br /> O of the walkway that open up and climb a double set of stairs to the Courthouse Plaza.
<br /> There is o small simple structural space for children to play in and shaded seat-
<br /> ® ing for parents. The plaza includes a smaller scale, shaded space to provide ref-
<br /> ® uge from the activity in front of the courthouse which also provides handicap ac-
<br /> ® cess to the building. This space is focused on a shaded inclined path that wraps
<br /> around canopy trees as it climbs to the entry plaza, creating an intermediary plot-
<br /> ® form halfway up for seating and gathering for individuals or for a small group.
