Russo, City Manager <br /> FROM: Susan Simpson, Cultural and Community Services <br /> Director <br /> DATE: 2/18/2016 <br /> Charitable Contribution to the Sunny Isles Beach K-8 <br /> RE: Trust Fund for the Florida International University First <br /> Generation Scholarship Program <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> This resolution is presented for your consideration. <br /> REASONS: <br /> The Sunny Isles Beach K-8 Trust Fund is sponsoring a donation to the <br /> Florida International University First Generation Scholarship Program. <br /> Florida International University (FIU) is the university of choice for many <br /> of our residents. The First Generation Scholarship Program is a State <br /> of Florida program that provides scholarships for students who are the <br /> first in the family to attend college and have a financial need. <br /> FIU is requesting a donation of $5,000 that will benefit 10 students at <br /> $1,000 per student in which the State provides 100% matching <br /> scholarship funds for a total of $10,000.00 when received through <br /> private donations. Many of our residents rely on scholarships to <br /> complete their college education. <br /> FUNDING SOURCE: <br /> • <br /> Funding for this item was anticipated and budgeted in the <br /> 283 <br />
