<br />- <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2010- 15t.l'l <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING <br />THE CHIEF OF POLICE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE <br />COMPREHENSIVE CRIME CONTROL ACT OF 1984 TO <br />EXPEND UP TO FORTY-ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS <br />($41,000.00) FROM THE FEDERAL FORFEITURE (DOJ) <br />FUNDS FOR SPONSORSHIP OF A COMMUNITY POLICING <br />EVENT, AND FOR PURCHASE OF LIGHTNING <br />PREDICTION AND WARNING SYSTEMS FOR CITY <br />P ARKS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in accordance with the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984, the City <br />and its Police Department are authorized to expend forfeiture funds from the established Department <br />of Justice (DOJ) federal forfeiture account, for the approved programs or purchases intended to <br />enhance law enforcement purposes; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in accordance with the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984, upon the <br />request of the Chief of Police to the governing body of a municipality, federally forfeited funds may <br />be expended if accompanied by written certification that the request complies with the provisions of <br />the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has submitted a request for the expenditure of Forty-One <br />Thousand Dollars ($41,000.00) in federally forfeited funds in compliance with the aforementioned. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Expenditure of Federally Forfeited Monies. Based on the attached certification, the <br />Chief of Police is hereby authorized to spend up to Forty-One Thousand Dollars ($41,000.00) in <br />federally forfeited funds in compliance with the aforementioned from the established Department of <br />Justice (DOJ) federal forfeitures account for the costs associated with sponsoring a community <br />policing event, and for purchase of Lightning Prediction and Warning Systems for City parks. <br /> <br />Section 2. <br /> <br />Effective Date.
