To: City Commission
From: Lynn M. Dannheisser,
City Attorney
Date: March 26, 1998
Subject: RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING MANAGER TO EXECUTE GRANT
APPLICATION FROM SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS BONDS
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt this resolution granting the City Manager
authority to apply for the Safe Neighborhood Bond Challenge Grant Program.
REASONS
We are advised by Miami -Dade County that there are approximately eight million dollars
available from the Safe Neighborhood Bond Program set aside for the acquisition of natural areas
and open space. Several cities are applying for this money but the fact that the City has virtually
no parkland within its corporate boundaries and the fact that the property we are attempting to
secure will represent beachfront access for the public, we believe, will place us in good stead for
this grant. We will be expected to match the amount of funds we receive and are encouraged to
present a plan for the park. We will need the authorization of this Commission to do whatever is
reasonably necessary to facilitate the securing of this grant.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The application must be submitted no later than April 24, 1998.
Respectfully submitted,
L M. Dannheisser,
City Attorney
