City of Sunny Isles Beach <br />17070 Collins Avenue, Suite 250 <br />Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160 <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Mayor Samson and City Commissioners <br />FROM: Richard Brown-Morilla <br />City Clerk <br />DATE: October 8, 1998 <br />SUBJECT: ACCEPTING AND ADOPTING MIAMI-DADE COUNTY'S CERTIFICATION <br />OF THE RESULTS OF THE SUNNY ISLES BEACH SPECIAL ELECTION <br />THAT WAS HELD ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1, 1998, REGARDING <br />CHANGING THE NAME OF THE CITY TO "AVENTURA BEACH," AND <br />DECLARING THAT THE RESULTS THEREOF REFLECT THAT THE <br />QUESTION WAS NOT APPROVED <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />We request and recommend that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution accepting <br />Miami -Dade County's Certification of the results of the October 1, 1998, Special Election. <br />REASONS: <br />Pursuant to the requirement in our Municipal Charter, the City Commission of the City of Sunny <br />Isles Beach adopted Ordinance No. 98-43, calling a Special Election for October 1, 1998, on the <br />issue of whether to change the name of the City to "Aventura Beach." Ordinance No. 98-43 <br />authorized Miami -Dade County Supervisor of Elections to conduct the Special Election, and also <br />calls for Miami -Dade County's certification of the results of the Special Election to be accepted <br />by the City Commission. <br />The election was held on October 1, 1998, and the County's Certification of the official returns <br />for each precinct vote in Sunny Isles Beach are attached to the proposed resolution as Composite <br />Exhibit "A."
