SUNNY ISLES BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />MEMORANDUM <br />To: City Commission, City Manager and Mayor Date: November 23, 1999 <br />of Sunny Isles Beach <br />From"`tFred Maas, Chief of Police Subject: Partial Expenditures of <br />Forfeiture Funds <br />Recommendation: <br />It is recommended that the City Commission approve by resolution, the partial expenditure of <br />forfeiture funds, previously awarded to the Police Department as the result of investigative <br />participation in forfeiture and seizure cases. These funds are law permissible to be spent for <br />purchases of police equipment and other related law enforcement activities. It is recommended <br />that we be permitted to utilize $62,712.17 of said funds on deposit for such purposes. <br />Reasons: <br />The benefits of participating and providing personnel into high intensity drug trafficking <br />investigation sections is the sharing of confiscated proceeds for the enhancement of law <br />enforcement agencies including new or additional equipment. This is designated so as not to <br />impact so greatly upon the financial concerns and budget of the city. All of the attached and <br />listed items are justifiably needed for officers performance of their duties and the benefit derived <br />by the residents of the City of Sunny Isles Beach. <br />Additional Information: <br />To date, the City of Sunny Isles Beach Police Department has been awarded more than <br />$100,000.00 in confiscated funds. Certain needs exist on behalf of the department whereby the <br />purchase of suggested equipment will accomplish those needs. Such items and equipment are <br />attached for your review: <br />Certification: <br />I, Fred Maas, certify that pursuant to Florida State Statute 932.0755 section (4) (a) and (4) (b), <br />the below listed items meet the guidelines of purchase for; crime prevention, safe neighborhood, <br />drug abuse education, or other law enforcement purposes which include defraying the costs of <br />protracted or complex investigations, and providing additional equipment. <br />
