Russo, City Manager dc
DATE: September 9, 2004
RE: ADDENDUM TO LIFEGUARD TOWER SERVICES AGREEMENT
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached resolution authorizing an
addendum to the lifeguard tower services agreement with Coastal Contracting & Development,
Inc. ("Coastal").
REASONS
In July of this year, the City Commission contracted with Coastal for the construction of three
(3) lifeguard tower stands, piggybacking off the City of Boca Raton Bid No. 2002-097. These
lifeguard towers are to be placed at the Ellen Wynne Beach Access, Samson Oceanfront Park,
and the Tumberry South Beach Access. Now, in furtherance of our effort to enhance the
lifeguard services in the city, we have had the existing lifeguard towers inspected. The north
tower is in need of minor repair work totally less than Thirty-Five Hundred Dollars ($3,500.00)
and this has been approved administratively. However, the south lifeguard tower (Pier Park) is
in need of major renovation to include new accordion shutters, roofing, plywood, and hurricane
straps. Coastal has agreed to undertake this project and has submitted a proposal for services in
the amount of Ten Thousand Ninety-Four Dollars (S10,094.00).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The City took over the lifeguard operations in the city limits at the end of the July 2004. As the
service is now being provided directly by the City, we are taking steps to upgrade this vital
service. To date, we have contracted for three (3) additional lifeguard stands, hired lifeguards,
and planned for the renovation of the existing lifeguard stands. All of this is crucial to our
efforts to have lifeguards strategically placed throughout the city for the safety and well-being of
beachgoers.
CJR/pw
Agenda Item
Lifeguard Stands Addendum Agenda Memo
Date
