.,11, RESOLUTION NO. 2004-l22- A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE EDUCATION/SCHOOLS COMMITTEE TO ESTABLISH A K-8 PUBLIC SCHOOL WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND THE CITY ATTORNEY TO NEGOTIATE WITH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD TO FACILITATE THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE PUBLIC SCHOOL WITHIN THE CITY; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, since the incorporation of the City, the population of school age children has increased tremendously; and WHEREAS, the City Commission established the Education/Schools Committee for the purpose of studying the feasibility of a public school or a charter school within the City; and WHEREAS, the Education/Schools Committee has held numerous public meetings to discuss the urgent need of a public school in the City; and WHEREAS, the Education/Schools Committee has reviewed all options that are available for the construction of a school in the City; and WHEREAS, the Education/Schools Committee has determined that a public school will satisfy the educational needs of the community; and WHEREAS, the City Commission concurs with the recommendation of the Education/Schools Committee; and WHEREAS, the City Commission intends to implement the recommendations of the Education/Schools Committee. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Accepting Recommendation. The City Commission hereby accepts the recommendation of the Education/Schools Committee to establish a K-8 public school within the boundaries of the City. Section 2. Authority of the City Manager and City Attorney. The City Commission hereby gives the City Manager and the City Attorney authority to negotiate with Miami-Dade County School Recommendation of Education School Comm.
