<br />.,11, <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2004-l22- <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING <br />THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE EDUCATION/SCHOOLS <br />COMMITTEE TO ESTABLISH A K-8 PUBLIC SCHOOL <br />WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY; AUTHORIZING <br />THE CITY MANAGER AND THE CITY ATTORNEY TO <br />NEGOTIATE WITH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY SCHOOL <br />BOARD TO FACILITATE THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE <br />PUBLIC SCHOOL WITHIN THE CITY; PROVIDING FOR <br />AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, since the incorporation of the City, the population of school age children has <br />increased tremendously; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission established the Education/Schools Committee for the <br />purpose of studying the feasibility of a public school or a charter school within the City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Education/Schools Committee has held numerous public meetings to <br />discuss the urgent need of a public school in the City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Education/Schools Committee has reviewed all options that are available <br />for the construction of a school in the City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Education/Schools Committee has determined that a public school will <br />satisfy the educational needs of the community; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission concurs with the recommendation of the <br />Education/Schools Committee; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission intends to implement the recommendations of the <br />Education/Schools Committee. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Accepting Recommendation. The City Commission hereby accepts the <br />recommendation of the Education/Schools Committee to establish a K-8 public school within the <br />boundaries of the City. <br /> <br />Section 2. Authority of the City Manager and City Attorney. The City Commission hereby <br />gives the City Manager and the City Attorney authority to negotiate with Miami-Dade County School <br /> <br />Recommendation of Education School Comm. <br />
