<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2005- ~ <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE <br />FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO <br />STUDY AND REMEDIATE THE EXISTING TRAFFIC <br />CONDITIONS AT 96TH STREET AND HARDING AVENUE IN <br />THE CITIES OF SURFSIDE AND BAL HARBOUR, <br />FLORIDA; AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK TO <br />TRANSMIT THIS RESOLUTION TO THE FLORIDA <br />DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION; PROVIDING FOR <br />AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the intersection of 96th Street and Harding Avenue in the cities ofBal Harbour <br />and Surfside is a State Road, operated and maintained by the Florida Department of Transportation; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in approximately 1997, the Florida Department of Transportation presented <br />certain traffic improvements that, in their opinion, would ameliorate traffic problems that were <br />existing and projected at that location; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation indicated, at that time, that in the <br />event that the proposed traffic improvements were unsuccessful that they would consider other traffic <br />improvement alternatives, including the creation of a new right turn (east bound to south bound) lane <br />at said intersection; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the present operation of said intersection is unacceptable and has adverse <br />impacts on numerous cities including the cites of Miami Beach, Bal Harbour, Indian Creek Village, <br />Bay Harbor, Sunny Isles Beach and North Miami. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Request of City Commission. The City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach <br />hereby urges the Florida Department of Transportation to study and, thereafter, ameliorate, the <br />existing unacceptable traffic condition at 96th Street and Harding Avenue in the cities ofBal Harbour <br />and Surfside, Florida, which adversely impacts the residents of Sunny Isles Beach as they travel <br />south on AlA. <br /> <br />Section 2. Authority of City Clerk. The City Commission authorizes the City Clerk to transmit <br />this Resolution to the appropriate officials of the Florida Department of Transportation and/or the <br />Miami -Dade County Legislative Delegation to provide for the amelioration ofthis traffic condition. <br /> <br />Page 1 of2 <br /> <br />R2005- Urge FDOT Traffic Study 96111 St. <br />
