<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2005- 81jp <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING <br />ITS CONCURRENCE WITH THE EUROPEAN COALITION <br />OF CITIES AGAINST RACISM AND ADOPTING THE TEN- <br />POINT PLAN OF ACTION; AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO <br />EXECUTE SAID DECLARATION OF INTENT; <br />AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS <br />NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS <br />RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the cities participating in the 4th European Conference of Cities for Human <br />Rights held on December 9 and 10, 2004 in Nuremberg were concerned with the rise of all forms of <br />racism and xenophobia, which causes discrimination and violence in cities, and constitutes a serious <br />threat to equality, mutual tolerance, peace, security and social cohesion in the city; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the struggle against racism, xenophobia and discrimination in the city is among <br />the duties of city authorities with a view to guaranteeing mutual respect and promoting equality <br />among city dwellers and of citizenship that respects the diversity from which springs the wealth of <br />modem societies; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the European Coalition of Cities have agreed to adopt a T en-Point Action Plan <br />in order to give practical expression to their commitment to combat racism, xenophobia and <br />discrimination which will make it possible for partner cities to set priorities in their struggle against <br />racism, xenophobia and discrimination, to rationalize and optimize their policies and to reinforce <br />their cooperation in this area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as citizens offree countries we are obliged to guard our fellow human beings <br />from racism and xenophobia all around the world. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section I. Concurrence with the European Coalition of Cities Against Racism and Adopt its <br />Ten-Point Plan of Action. The City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach hereby expresses <br />its concurrence with the European Coalition of Cities Against Racism and adopting the Ten-Point <br />Plan of Action, attached hereto as Exhibit "A". <br /> <br />Section 2. <br />of Intent. <br /> <br />Authorization of Mayor. The Mayor is hereby authorized to execute said Declaration <br /> <br />Section 3. <br /> <br />Authorization of City Manager.
