RESOLUTION NO. 2005- 8 ~ l

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, OPPOSING
.
THE PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE MIAMI-DADE
COUNTY ZONING CODE PERTAINING TO
REGULATION OF SIGNS AND ENFORCEMENT OF SIGN
REGULATIONS; PROVIDING THE CITY MANAGER AND
THE CITY ATTORNEY WITH THE AUTHORITY TO DO
ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS
RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade County Commission is considering an amendment to the
Miami-Dade County Zoning Ordinance; and

WHEREAS, the proposed amendment would require all sign permits in incorporated
municipalities, including Sunny Isles Beach, to first be approved by County Planning & Zoning
staff; and

WHEREAS, the sign regulations of the City of Sunny Isles Beach Land Development
Regulations are stricter than the Miami-Dade County Zoning Ordinance; and

WHEREAS, the City Commission believes that this amendment, if adopted, would
negatively impact the business community of Sunny Isles Beach, by subjecting sign permits to
several weeks of unnecessary delay; and

WHEREAS, this type of intrusion by the County Planning & Zoning Department into local
municipalities' traditional authority over building, permitting and land use decisions is an unwise
precedent and will increase the workload and staff time of the Zoning and Building Departments.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. Opposition of the Commission.
