Parker, Building Official/Administrator {)f~ <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />May 18, 2006 <br /> <br />RE: <br /> <br />Request for Extension of Time to Waive Building Permit Fees <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />It is requested that the City Commission adopt the Resolution. <br /> <br />REASONS: <br /> <br />In the wake of Hurricane Wilma the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2005-850 which <br />waived the City Building Permit fees for property owners for any Hurricane related repairs for a <br />six-month period, which ended on April 26, 2006. However, as Hurricane Wilma caused a vast <br />amount of destruction and debris statewide, many residents have been unable to get their repairs <br />done during the amnesty time period. As such, staff is requesting the waiver period being <br />extended through July 26, 2006. <br /> <br />ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: <br /> <br />The intent of Resolution No. 2005-850 was to provide relief to Hurricane Wilma victims for the <br />damages incurred by the storm. However, we have encountered several code issues with regards <br />to replacement of broken glass. This has caused delays by contractors and engineers to give <br />Condominium Associations and residents their assessment reports for repairs. <br /> <br />Staff feels that with the latest interpretation from the Board of Rules and Appeals, a 90-day <br />extension of time would be sufficient to allow the remaining permits to be issued. <br /> <br />Agenda Item <br /> <br />Date <br />
