<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2007- 1051 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING <br />THE DONATION OF SURPLUS COMPUTERS AND <br />COMPUTER MONITORS TO THE EDUCATION FUND, A <br />NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY <br />MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO <br />EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The Education Fund began in 1985 as a non-profit organization that designs, <br />shapes and implements initiatives that involve the private sector in improving schools and bringing <br />excellence to public education; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these initiatives have directly affected 10,000 teachers in the Miami-Dade <br />County Public Schools System, and more than 380,000 students; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Citibank FamilyTech program, run by The Education Fund, accepts <br />donations of computer equipment, which is then refurbished, made Internet-ready, and then loaned <br />on a long-term basis to low-income families with children at selected Miami-Dade County Public <br />Schools; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in the classrooms, children learn computer skills and work on projects <br />incorporating technology under the guidance of specially trained teachers who receive extensive <br />training from expert mentor teachers on how best to incorporate computer use into their classrooms; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, by becoming computer literate, students gain skills that help them compete <br />academically and in the job market, and parents acquire new, marketable skills; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City is in possession of a significant amount of surplus computers and <br />computer monitors that have been decommissioned over the last two to three years, and are no longer <br />viable for business use in the City and wishes to donate them to The Education Fund. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section I. Donation of Surplus Computers and Computer Monitors. The donation of surplus <br />computers and computer monitors listed on Attachment "A" to The Education Fund is hereby <br />approved by the City Commission. <br /> <br />Section 2. Authorization of City Manager.
