<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2007--.lL q '3 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, <br />TERMINATING, CREATING, AND CONTINUING <br />CERTAIN ADVISORY COMMITTEES OF THE CITY; <br />PROVIDING FOR SUNSET OF THE <br />EDUCATION/SCHOOLS COMMITTEE; PROVIDING <br />FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 74-8 of the Code provides that there shall be as many standing <br />committees of the City Commission as the Mayor or City Commission deems necessary and that <br />the City Commission may establish or terminate such Committees from time to time; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor has reviewed the City's existing advisory committees and has <br />determined that the Community Activities and Health Committee has served the city well, but in <br />most instances duplicates the work of the City's Cultural and Human Services Department; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor has also determined that the Traffic and Safety Committee is <br />hampered by the fact that the major thoroughfares in the city are State or County roads that fall <br />under the authority of those entities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as such, the City Commission wishes to terminate the Community <br />Activities and Health Committee and the Traffic and Safety Committee; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, further, the City Commission wishes to create a new advisory committee, <br />to be called the "Community Awareness Committee", which shall be responsible for advising the <br />City Commission on matters pertaining to community awareness; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to continue the Long Range Planning and <br />Intergovernmental Relations Committee, the Tourism and Development Committee, and the <br />Education/Schools Committee; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission would like to add a caveat that the Education/Schools <br />Committee shall sunset upon the opening of the new K-8 school in the City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, with these changes the City's Advisory Committees will be (1) Community <br />Awareness Committee; (2) Long Range Planning and Intergovernmental Relations Committee; <br />(3) Tourism and Development Committee; and (4) Education/Schools Committee; and <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Termination of Advisory Committee(s).
