<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2008- 125'1 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY <br />OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, TERMINATING THE <br />EDUCATION/SCHOOLS COMMITTEE OF THE MAYOR'S <br />ADVISORY COUNCIL (M.A.C.); AUTHORIZING THE CITY <br />MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO <br />EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 74-8 of the Code provides that there shall be as many standing <br />committees of the City Commission as the Mayor or City Commission deems necessary and that <br />the City Commission may establish or terminate such Committees from time to time; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in February 2004 the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2004-644 <br />which established five advisory committees, which included the Education-Schools Committee; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Education-Schools Committee was charged with the task of assisting <br />the City Commission in making a determination whether to pursue a charter, public or alternate <br />school in the city; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Education-Schools Committee researched the matter and recommended <br />the City pursue a public school with Miami-Dade County Public Schools; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, subsequently, the City formed a partnership with Miami-Dade County <br />Public Schools to facilitate the construction of a K-8 public school in the city; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the newly constructed Sunny Isles Beach Community School IS near <br />completion and is scheduled to open in August 2008; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in December 2007 the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2007- <br />1193, which continued the Education/Schools Committee with a caveat that it shall sunset upon <br />the opening of the new K-8 school in the City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Education-Schools Committee realizes that their role in bringing the <br />school to fruition is complete and has asked the Mayor to terminate the Committee at this time; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Education-Schools Committee has served the City well and will be <br />remembered for being instrumental in bringing a neighborhood school to the City. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Termination of Education-School Committee.
