John Szerlag, City Manager

Fred A. Maas, Chief of Police
Michael A. Grandinetti, Police Captain

April 17,2008

Approval of Purchase of Twelve Handheld P7150 Police Radios and Accessories

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the City
Manager to purchase twelve (12) Handheld P7150 Police Radios and associated accessones, an
amount not to exceed $39,800.00.

REASONS:

The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department has only replaced approximately 20% of our handheld
police radios over the past nine years. With the increasing number of malfunctions and repair cost of
these original radios, and to assure the safety and reliability of this important lifeline equipment
issued to our officers, these twelve (12) radios would be used to replace several of the older and
malfunctioning radios. These radios would be purchased from the Miami-Dade County, Enterprise
Technology Services Department, piggybacking the Miami Dade County Contract # 195-14.
Purchasing these radios through Miami-Dade County would be the most cost effective method being
that Miami-Dade County purchases directly through MIA-Com, Inc. (GE Ericsson, Inc.) and receives
a 37% discount. Miami-Dade County also provides the programming for all radios on their system.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Funding for the above radios and associated equipment were budgeted and are available under
General Fund, Capital Expenditures - Radios. Delivery is expected within ninety (90) days of receipt
of our order.

Funding available:

Agenda Item No.: I 0 A

Commission Meeting Date: 4 - 11-0&

Cover Memo - Police Handheld Radios
